Sleep and HRV Connection
How your sleep quality directly impacts your heart rate variability.
Sleep and HRV Connection
Poor sleep is one of the strongest predictors of reduced HRV the following day. VitalSync's Correlation Engine tracks this relationship using the Sleep-Cardiovascular Reciprocity model (Cappuccio et al., 2011).
The Relationship
- A sleep efficiency below 75% is associated with elevated morning blood pressure.
- Less than 6 hours of sleep correlates with reduced next-day HRV.
- Poor REM sleep is linked to higher resting heart rate.
How VitalSync Detects This
The Correlation Engine compares your sleep efficiency on Day 1 with your blood pressure and HRV on Day 2. If a pattern emerges over multiple days, it generates a personalised insight with an evidence level rating.
What To Do
If VitalSync flags a sleep-HRV correlation, focus on improving sleep consistency before adjusting training intensity.
